Kneading Through the Overwhelm
Jaisha WallentineShare
Dear Crumbheads,
When everything feels like too much, your dough gets it. It’s sticky. Messy. Slows down when it's cold. Acts out when pushed too hard.
Sound familiar?
Meet The Absorbing Loaf—the silent burnout of invisible overload. It’s not laziness; it's emotional labor baked into exhaustion. Overwhelm isn’t just a feeling—it’s a full-body shutdown. And yet, here we are, expected to “power through” like perfectly proofed croissants.
Spoiler alert: even croissants fall flat without rest.
From Freeze to Feel: Your Nervous System Ritual
Set a timer for 5 minutes while kneading. Feel the dough’s warmth, its gentle resistance. Let each fold slow your breath.
Mr. Crusty interrupts:
“Okay, pause. Are you actually kneading, or just aggressively poking dough while panicking? Breathe. Your crust depends on this.”
As you knead, ask yourself:
- What emotional load am I absorbing right now that isn’t mine to hold?
- What gentle boundary could soften this overwhelm?
Write it down. Or don’t. Just notice it.
Small Win Reflection: Today, celebrate the tiny moments where you didn't take on extra emotional weight—even if it was just saying “I'll think about it” instead of “yes.” Small boundaries build big resilience.
You don’t need to fix your whole life today.
You just need to knead the next piece of it.
Community Crumb Drop: What tiny boundary did you set today? Share your crumb below or in our Facebook group (Sourdough Soul Care).
You're doing better than you think, crumbfriend.
Crust be praised,
— Mr. Crusty
“Boundaries aren’t rude—they’re just crust protection.”
