The Burnt Crust

You can’t help running your fingers over the charred edge, remembering what it was before the flames. You keep telling yourself you can salvage it if you try hard enough. But some things are already too scorched to taste sweet again.

It’s not failure to stop chewing on bitterness. You deserve more than what burns you.

I tried scraping off the burnt bits once. Turns out, it was all burnt.

You’re allowed to spit it out.
